Imagine you are living in a community of global citizens. You wake up in the morning and walk to the meditation hall through the doors of your religious shrine (temple or a mosque or a church) or for a walk in the woods alone, or laugh with others in a park, you prepare yourself for another soulful day.

You meet other members of your community for the breakfast in the dining hall wondering what is for breakfast today. From the rich tradition of the planet earth’s numerous cultures, which have created the culinary varieties after hundreds of years of experimentation; there are enough choices to provide you a breakfast that will not be repeated during the entire year. Within that there will be few more options: Vegetarian non vegetarian and vegan etc. Or you may want to eat your breakfast alone at your home with whatever you like.

Now you are ready to pursue your daily activities which are deeply aligned with who you are. You think of the time when you were doing things to search who you are and you smile. You know that you are aligned with your purpose since you feel this flow of energy and you are present in this moment. You go to the school no matter what your age is. Schools are of different types and for all ages. You learn about yourself and the world through lectures, books, and living media using virtual reality with advance computers; and practically through your fellow students who are from almost all the nations of the world. 

You work by your self or with others from your community, or for an external organization. This enables you to move towards caring for the whole. Working for social and environmental issues move you further, and as you adopt a mindset of a Global Citizen, you are more open to learning about other people and their cultures, feeling neither superior nor inferior to them.  You achieve a sense of connectedness with all. You are co creating a world that many believed was not possible. You know in your heart that the pattern of your community will be repeated the world over since it is our destiny as wise, compassionate human beings. The universe has waited for this moment patiently. The gift of evolution has straightened our frames, expanded our brains and filled our heart with warm blood. Nature has been nurturing us, nourishing us, connecting us to our wisdom and preparing us to make this choice. 

Each evening, at the town central, there is a festival to celebrate life. You can sing, read a poem, dance or any other activities that is your unique skill or passion or you present something from your rich cultural heritage along with others. What a visual feast to the eyes and music to the ears as you hear the instruments never heard before stimulating every cell of your body. This is the time where visitors, hungry for this richness of life, flock to the town central. Community have to limit the number of visitors so there is a long waiting list of people who want to experience the global community and sometimes they have to wait for months to visit.

You go to bed being grateful for another day where you have fully lived with your fellow global citizens. It is like experiencing many life times in different countries, in one life time. This is living an integrated life experiencing the joy of being a human with colorful heritage of our planet.

In this community you believe that diversity is the source of creativity.  You live the richness of life by being surrounded with people from all over and get engrossed in their music, their food, their cloths, their craft, their discoveries of the truth, their search for the truth and their eccentricities. But most significantly these people have a global mind and a heart.

Global mind is an open mind. It knows that Global Citizens are those who celebrate diversity and care for the whole. Global heart is filled with compassion for all living things and feels connectedness. It has learned forgiveness for fellow humans.

Imagine a world where diversity is welcome, where open, frank dialogue is possible on all issues and where we are connected by values of empathy, compassion and caring for the whole instead of narrow and divisive national or corporate interests.  We can envision a world with immense possibilities and opportunities for all to reach their highest potentials. We can talk to anyone and see them in seconds and experience their being with us. Geographical distances are dead for a long time and now we are bridging global hearts of humans in our community enabling them to live their authentic self. Welcome to the World of Global Citizens.

Mr. Chandra is considered a global citizen and works in the field of global leadership development.   He is a contributing author to "Learning Organizations: Developing Cultures for Tomorrow's Workplace" and "Community Building: Renewing Spirit and Learning in Business".
